Back at camp…

June 15th, 2009 by admin

Well, school’s out and camp has begun! Im taking my first course this week in 3D Game Design with the Unreal Engine. I already know how to create rooms, add weapons/vehicles, create player spawns, create lighting, create AI paths, change textures, add meshes, and import textures. Now it’s time to work on moving objects with Kismet, UnrealScript, cinematics, further customization of meshes, and perhaps even animation and importation of objects/players.

Right now Im working on a simple test map built up of epilepsy barricades, cloud walls/ceilings, ONE weapon locker and a vehicle in the back. I just also added a tunnel with an elevator(WORKING) up to a hallway and another room. Its just a map for fun at this point. Ive tested it out with bots already, heres some screenshots:

I made another test map but I kinda crashed it with lighting defects. By Friday Ill have a perfectly working level(possibly cinematic and models?) and Ill get screenshots and hopefully a download for those of you that own Unreal Tournament 3 for PC.

About Camp So Far

Well, Im having a good deal of fun other than getting no sleep due to some form of heartburn I experienced last night. As you can tell I’ve been busy. Im happy to be able to make this blog post. Im working on getting some content off ot the ID Tutorial website so I can use them after my weeks of camp are over. Im bowling tomorrow(I think?) and watching a movie wednesday or thursday. I’ll be sure to write more later, for now Im off to dinner at a very good Campus cafe/cafeteria thing.

Cheers,

Zeph

Schools out… FINALLY

June 4th, 2009 by admin

Looks like I will be taking some programming summer courses along with dual credit and AP courses next school year… you know what that means… I will be making more programming tutorials! I have been trying to get around to some photoshop tutorials but the damn things always run me over video time! You know how YOU the viewer can fix this? Go to my account: youtube.com/xylogeist and subscribe/watch my videos/and 5 star them. If I could just get enough views(such as 2k a video) then maybe I could become a youtube partner and make 15 minute videos!

Anyways I think my programming tuts are going to lead into designing games with the XNA Studio after the basics – go check it out on their website: Link

Its basically an add on to Visual C# 2008. It is simply amazing quite frankly. Object oriented programming has opened up a whole new directive for me. I should probably first learn procedural programming first… but object oriaented is sooo much easier…

Another article soon,

Zeph

Happy Birthday

May 16th, 2009 by admin

On may 16th it was my birthday!

Thanks for the presents to those of you who gave… I got to see Star Trek which was quite extraordinary.

More later,

Zeph

More:

On my birthday I invited some friends over for some Halo 3 pwnage. We also played Half Life 2 and as I mentioned, watched Star Trek. I pulled in about 200$ in gift money, so it was a great day.

The other day you may have noticed the forum on thepctakeover.com was 404′d! I fixed the dilemma, apparently either the site was being bullied by inexperienced hackers or my host decided to be a dick.

I’ve decided to tease you with some ideas that may be implemented in my project that I am putting together to develop a game with the Source Engine.

I’m focusing on the idea of a Zombie Survival RPG. Choose to defend, attack, or run from the zombie threat! At this time we believe that our funds will not  be powerful enough to make this a console wide operation. I can tell you that this project will focus manly on the RPG functions of the game rather than the FPS functions. Im sure we will make sure there is an extensive character customization engine.

Thanks for the read,

Zeph

Future Projects

May 12th, 2009 by admin

I know what your thinking – why so many blogs all of a sudden?

Well the truth is I have a LOT of ideas that I need to put to work and I need to get them settled before summer starts in less than 3 weeks.

Some of you may know, although not many of you, that I wish to be a game designer nd I have been trying to start a game design orgnization and get a project rolling. I am also trying to find a good engine to work with. I have jut sent an email to Valve to apply for a non-licensed copy of their Source Engine saying -

In the future we plan to license with Valve, however we need to work with the engine on private projects before we are able to license with Source. Our organization wishes to arrange a trial period in which we can experiment and work on our projects with Source and license after our product’s completion.

Hopefully our invitation will be accepted. If we are accepted I will need designers for an ongoing project that I will not disclose at this time. All I can say is, I will be hiring for the following positions:

-Programmer LUA/C++/ETC

-Artists 3D

-Artist Mesh Design

-Animation Design

-Map Creation and World Design

-AI Design

-Network and online design

-Opperations Manager

-GFX Design

-Advertising

If you would like to apply just shoot me an  email(Xylogeist@aol.com) or leave a comment.

Also, it is now possible to create an account on this blog.

Regards,

Zeph

(NOTE: There will not be a G-mod dedicated server at this point, and I no longer wish to make one in the future.)

What’s new?

May 8th, 2009 by admin

Sorry about being inactive for awhile, as you may have noticed I have a pretty mixed up priority set. I’ve been doing some gaming recently, but now I am ready to devote more of my time to ThePCTakeover and of course this lovely blog o’ mine. Also I’ve penciled in some hardcore youtube-ing.

With my last day of schooling merely 3 weeks away I can safely say there will be some DRASTIC changes to ThePCTakeover.

Yesterday I completed a new optimization to the site(ThePCTakeover) that adds a load of new user/forum opportunities. I’ve listed these in a recent news announcement located here: Link

As you may know – via my last blog article – I am hard at work on my end of the year portfolio presentation. I’ve decided to make this presentation web based. This portfolio should show up in a tab at the top of my blog soon. Ill post a reminder link in my next article which probably wont come until the portfolio has been presented…

Once my portfolio is up please comment any ideas or suggestions you might have.

ALSO, I’m considering working on my wikipedia soon and even adding site related stuff to it. Check it frequently here: Link

Thanks

Portfolio Showcase

May 5th, 2009 by admin

Here in Texas the Swine flu is taking a toll on the school district as looming threats of school closing shadow the student body. Students are fearful that before finals the school will be shut down and plans will be made to take finals in the summer!

If my school does not shut down I will have a presentation to give(right before being exempt from finals!) to the people in my community, this presentation is known as portfolio showcase.

To prepare for my show case I must create various presentations from each subject. Right now I am working on Biology – a PowerPoint Presentation on the strengths and weaknesses of each side of the Evolution vs Creation struggle.

If you have an ideas for my project or perhaps another project that deals with one of my classes(Art, English, Biology, Geometry, P.E., Teen Leadership, Geography, and Accounting.) please email me via:
Xylogeist@aol.com
OR
Xylogeist@thepctakeover.com.

Sample of Biology Presentation:

Evolution Weaknesses:

Slide 8

  • The extreme improbability of obtaining any specific amino acid sequence needed for the proteins of life systems.
  • No known way to achieve 100% left-handed amino acids in proteins or the 100% right-handed sugars in RNA and DNA – all of which are universal to life systems.
  • All natural processes are known to produce a 50-50% mixture of left-handed and right-handed molecules.
  • Photo dissociation of water vapor has been a source of oxygen since the Earth formed, and there is substantial geologic evidence that a significant amount of oxygen existed in the atmosphere prior to the advent of photosynthesis. Oxygen breaks down amino acids and sugars that are postulated to have formed!
  • There is no known natural source of the information that is present in all life systems.  Random processes are never known to produce information.

I look forward to devoting most of my daily hours to “thepctakeover.com” and my blog in the near summer! Good luck to all of you, the school year is finally coming to a close.

Also a Special Congratulations to a lad in Netherlands who is graduating this year and coming to visit in the summer, although that’s another blog article for another time…

Best Wished

Takeover MS Beta Underway

April 11th, 2009 by admin

Hello friends and happy Easter.

What am I doing for Easter? Well the answer lies in my usual studies – something kick-ass on the pc yet again! I hope to have ThePCTakover.com’s fully functioning maple story server up and running at beta test quality by Sarurday so our members can enjoy it during their easter break. So in this article I will be breaking down some concepts I will be working on to maximize our server.

RATES

The drop, meso, and exp rates of a server are very important in maintaining proportions that make for good gameplay – this is why I hope to expand the rates into a different patern for each world I have in the game!

5 Worlds

The first world features average drop rates(heightened from the original game of course), the second features More EXP than drop and meso rates, the third allot of meso rates but low ESP rates, and the fourth is a developmental server which holds max rates in all directions.

Rates

I also have 5 channels open per world at all times, so if one channel crashes, the characters in that world can still play without me having to reboot the world server. Also, I am able to add in a small message about the server(to the left).

5 Channels, and a server message!

With the latest version of vana, quests work, and I also believe that guilds and parties MIGHT work – I haven’t been able to test either of these yet but I will get screenshots soon.

How to join?

Soon I will be making a topic on ThePCTakeover.com to recruit people to join the open BETA, for details please email me at admin@thepctakeover.com or MSN me at Spartan117chris@aol.com.

More details on the MS Server soon!
